This last weekend I took a trip to Århus, Denmark with some other students from UW. It’s Denmark’s second largest city, and is located on the eastern shore of the Jutland (the mainland part of Denmark which boarders Germany).
The day began early in order to catch our 8 AM train from Copenhagen. The trip takes about 2 hrs and 50 min in total, and the train ride was actually pretty fun. While getting to know my new badger friends, we passed over two large bridges connecting the different islands of this country. The landscape was speckled with small groups of Wind Turbines, something I never grow tired of seeing and one of the reasons I love Denmark.
Once we arrived and met some more badgers studying in this little town we visited ARoS Art Museum. In addition to some permanent galleries they were showing an exhibit by Jorn.
After this we spent the afternoon strolling through ‘Dem Gamle By’ (The Old Town) where they have reconstructed different types of buildings from the 1600s – 1800s. It’s a pretty complete little village, and it includes everything from breweries and tobacco stores to mansions and a old clock collection.
After our hearty helping of Danish culture and dinner at a Mexican Restaurant (no Los Gemelos) we hoped on the train to get back to the Copenhagen. A very fun day trip, and I finally set foot on the Jutland!
